Classic vs Hybrid vs Russian Volume
Three different lash styles, each suited to a different look. Here's how they actually differ.
Classic
One extension per natural lash. A single tapered extension is bonded to each of your natural lashes. Results look like mascara — defined, lengthened, natural. Suits anyone who wants the lash look without it being obvious.
Hybrid
A blend of Classic and Volume. Around 70% Classic singles, 30% Volume fans, applied across your lash line. Gives a textured, less uniform look than Classic — fuller in places, more natural in others.
Russian Volume
Multiple lightweight extensions per natural lash. Fans of 2–6 ultra-fine extensions are hand-made and applied to each natural lash. The result is dense, dramatic, and uniform. Each extension weighs a fraction of a Classic.
Will Lash Extensions Damage My Natural Lashes?
The honest answer: damage happens when extensions are applied incorrectly. When applied properly, your natural lashes shed and regrow on their normal cycle, undisturbed.
Where damage actually comes from
- Multiple extensions glued to one natural lash (other than a proper Volume fan, which is engineered to weigh the same as a single Classic extension)
- Extensions applied too close to the lash line, touching skin and pulling at the follicle
- Extensions too heavy for the natural lash — a 0.15mm Classic on a fine, weak natural lash will eventually pull it out prematurely
- Picking, rubbing, or pulling extensions off instead of letting them shed naturally or having them professionally removed
We apply lash-by-lash with weight matched to your natural lash strength, leave a clear 0.5–1mm gap from the lash line, and never bond multiple Classic extensions onto a single natural lash.
If you've ever had extensions cause damage in the past, it wasn't the extensions — it was the application. The same is true of poor retention. The two issues share a single root cause.
How Long Do Lash Extensions Last?
Lash extensions shed with your natural lashes. That's biology — your natural lashes shed and regrow on a 6–8 week cycle, and your extensions go with them. Most clients book refills every 2–3 weeks to top up.
What matters more than time between refills is what your lashes look like at week 2.
Badly applied extensions fall out in clumps, leaving gaps. Good application means your lashes shed evenly across the lash line — so the overall look stays balanced even as individual lashes are lost. That's the difference you'll see by appointment two.
What affects retention
- The quality of the initial application (the biggest factor by far)
- Your natural lash growth cycle (faster cycles = faster shedding)
- Aftercare — oil exposure, rubbing, sleeping face-down all reduce retention
- Hormonal changes (pregnancy, medication, stress all affect lash cycle)
We'll talk through your routine at the first appointment so you know what to do at home.

Aftercare
What to do (and avoid) for the first 24 hours, plus daily care for best retention.
Aftercare
The first 24 hours protect the bond. After that, ongoing care protects retention.
First 24 hours
- No water on the lashes
- No steam, sauna, or hot showers on the face
- No makeup on the eye area
- Sleep on your back if possible
Daily care after 24 hours
- Cleanse lashes daily with a lash-safe foam cleanser (no oil-based products near the eyes)
- Brush gently with the spoolie provided each morning
- Avoid waterproof mascara, oil-based cleansers, and any face products containing glycols on the lash line
- Don't pick, rub, or pull at the extensions — let them shed naturally or come in for professional removal
- Avoid swimming pools and direct salt water for the first 48 hours; rinse with fresh water immediately after swimming once allowed
Most clients book refills every 2–3 weeks. Wait longer than 4 weeks between refills and a full new set is usually faster than a heavy refill.
Eyelash Extensions FAQs
How long does the first appointment take?
Classic Full Set: 90 minutes. Hybrid or Russian Volume: 100–120 minutes. We'll confirm at booking based on style.
How often do I need refills?
Most clients book every 2–3 weeks. Some stretch to 4 weeks depending on natural lash cycle and aftercare. Beyond 4 weeks, a full new set is usually faster and cheaper than a heavy refill.
Can I wear mascara with extensions?
Generally not recommended — most mascaras (and especially waterproof) clump on the extensions and shorten their lifespan. If you want extra drama between appointments, ask for a denser set rather than adding mascara.
Can I swim, shower, or exercise?
After the first 24 hours, yes. Avoid hot tubs and saunas in the first week. Rinse with fresh water after swimming in pools or the ocean. Pat dry — don't rub.
Are extensions damaging?
Properly applied extensions don't damage natural lashes. Damage comes from incorrect application or poor aftercare. See the "Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?" section above for the full answer.
What if I want them off before they shed?
Come in for a professional removal — $45. Never pick, pull, or attempt to dissolve them at home — that's the most common cause of damage.
What if I have an allergic reaction?
Mild irritation is uncommon but possible. If you're concerned, we can do a patch test before your appointment. Severe reactions to the adhesive are rare; if you've ever had a reaction to a lash adhesive elsewhere, please tell us at booking.
Can I get fills from a different lash artist?
Technically yes, but most lash artists won't refill another artist's work because they can't guarantee the underlying application. We recommend sticking with one artist (us or another) for consistency.
How do I know if my natural lashes are strong enough for extensions?
Most lashes are. If your natural lashes are very fine or weak, we'll recommend a lighter style (Classic singles or 2D Volume rather than 6D). If we don't think extensions are right for you, we'll tell you — and suggest a lash lift instead.
