Quick answer: Full body waxing typically covers the legs (full or half), underarms, bikini or Brazilian, arms, back or chest, and the face. At Iconic Brow Wax N Beauty in North Lakes, individual areas range from $10 (forehead) to $65 (full face threading), and we offer four set packages — Legs + Brazilian $100, Arms + Legs + Brazilian $135, Full Body Wax $165, and the Everything Package $300. Done properly, results last 3–4 weeks. Here’s what to actually expect, what to avoid, and how to prep so the appointment goes smoothly.
What “full body waxing” actually means
There’s no fixed legal definition. Different salons bundle different areas. In Brisbane, “full body” usually covers:
- Legs — full legs (thigh + lower leg) or half legs
- Underarms
- Bikini line, Brazilian or Hollywood
- Arms — full or half (forearm only)
- Back or chest (especially for men)
- Face — upper lip, chin, eyebrows or full face
At Iconic Brow Wax N Beauty, we wax each of these as individual services. You can book any combination you want. “Full body” is just shorthand for booking a longer appointment block to do several at once.
The advantage of booking everything together: one drive, one appointment, one set of post-wax aftercare for everything.

For most first-time clients, the Full Body Wax package at $165 is the sweet spot — it covers the main areas (legs, Brazilian, underarms, arms) in one appointment block of about 90 minutes.
For ongoing maintenance, mixing individual areas works out cheaper. Once you’ve found your rhythm, most clients book just the areas they actually need each cycle.
Wax vs threading vs shaving — when each works
A reality not many salons spell out:
Waxing suits: legs, underarms, bikini/Brazilian, arms, back, chest. Larger areas and areas with thicker hair. Results last 3–4 weeks, hair grows back finer over time.
Threading suits: face, especially eyebrows, upper lip, chin and sideburns. More precise than wax for shaping, and gentler on sensitive facial skin. Some clients with reactive skin only thread, never wax their face.
Shaving suits: in-between maintenance only if you genuinely can’t wait the recommended 3 weeks between waxes. The catch: shaved hair grows back blunt-tipped, looks darker, and is harder to wax cleanly the next time. The longer you can avoid shaving between sessions, the better your wax results.
If you’re new to waxing and currently shaving, plan for the first 2–3 sessions to not be your best. Once your hair is on a regular waxing growth cycle (about 3 cycles in), the results improve significantly.
How long does the hair need to be?
This is the single biggest reason first-time wax appointments don’t go well.
Minimum length: about 5mm, or roughly the length of a grain of rice.
If you’ve just shaved, you need to grow it out for 2–3 weeks before the appointment. If the hair is too short, the wax can’t grab it properly, and you’ll either need to reschedule or accept a patchy result.
If you’re not sure whether it’s long enough: it should be visible when you look down at the area, not just stubble.
What to do (and not do) before your appointment
Do:
- Exfoliate gently the day before (not the day of) to remove dead skin and lift the hairs
- Shower beforehand and arrive with clean skin
- Wear loose-fitting clothes for after the appointment
- Take a paracetamol 30 minutes before if you’re nervous about pain (especially for Brazilian/extended bikini)
- Eat a meal beforehand — appointments on an empty stomach feel worse
Don’t:
- Don’t shave for at least 2 weeks before
- Don’t moisturise the area on the day of the appointment (oils interfere with wax adherence)
- Don’t tan (fake or real) in the 24 hours before
- Don’t drink alcohol the night before — it thins the blood and increases sensitivity
- Don’t book during your period if you can avoid it (skin is more sensitive in the 48 hours either side)
How it actually goes — what to expect at the appointment
Walking in for the first time, here’s the rough timeline:
Consultation (5 minutes). Your therapist will check the area, confirm what’s being waxed, and ask about skin sensitivities or medications you’re on. Mention any retinol, accutane, or strong actives you’ve been using.
Prep (3–5 minutes). Cleanse the area with an antiseptic prep solution. Apply a thin layer of pre-wax oil if your skin is sensitive.
Waxing (varies by area). Most areas are quick:
- Eyebrows: 5–10 minutes
- Underarms: 5–10 minutes
- Half legs: 15–20 minutes
- Full legs: 25–35 minutes
- Brazilian: 20–30 minutes
- Back: 30–40 minutes
Hot wax is applied in small sections, then either stripped with a cotton strip or — for hard wax (used in Brazilian/face) — peeled off directly once it’s set.
Aftercare on the day. Soothing lotion applied at the end. The therapist will check for any missed hairs and tweeze if needed. Slight redness for 2–24 hours depending on skin type is normal.
First 24–48 hours: what aftercare actually matters
The skin is open and sensitive after waxing. The first 48 hours are when things go wrong if you don’t follow basic aftercare.
Hours 0–24:
- No hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms — lukewarm water only
- No swimming (chlorine and saltwater both irritate freshly waxed skin)
- No exercise that creates sweat (gym, running, hot yoga)
- No tight clothing on the waxed area
- No tanning, sun exposure, or solarium use
- No fragranced products, harsh soaps, or AHA/BHA on the area
- Don’t touch unnecessarily — bacteria from hands cause most post-wax breakouts
Hours 24–48:
- Most restrictions ease — you can shower, exercise lightly, dress normally
- Start applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser daily
- Still avoid harsh skincare directly on the area
Days 3 onwards:
- Begin gentle exfoliation 2–3 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs (a soft body brush or a chemical exfoliant works)
- Continue daily moisturising
- Sunscreen on any exposed waxed area
How to prevent ingrown hairs (the main complaint)
Ingrowns are the number one frustration with waxing — and they’re almost entirely preventable.
The cause: dead skin builds up over the hair follicle, and as the new hair grows back, it can’t push through. It curls back under the skin instead.
The fix is consistent:
- Exfoliate 2–3 times per week starting 3 days after the wax — body brush, washcloth, or a chemical exfoliant
- Moisturise daily — soft skin lets hair through easily
- Don’t wear tight clothing for long periods on freshly waxed areas
- Avoid heavy oils in the first 48 hours, then moisturise from day 3
- Drink water — hydrated skin is more pliable
- Consider a salicylic acid spot treatment if you’re prone to ingrowns on the bikini line
Done consistently, you should see almost no ingrowns by your second or third wax cycle.
How often should you book?
The honest answer depends on the area:
- Eyebrows, upper lip, chin: every 4 weeks (hair grows back faster on the face)
- Underarms: every 3–4 weeks
- Legs: every 4–6 weeks
- Brazilian/bikini: every 4–6 weeks
- Arms, back: every 5–6 weeks
The cycle matters: hair grows in three phases, and only hair in the “active growth” phase comes out cleanly. The other phases are below the skin surface. You can’t wax them out — they’ll surface in the next 1–2 weeks. Regular waxing on a 4–6 week cycle eventually syncs your hair so most of it grows at the same rate.
After 3–5 consistent cycles, hair grows back noticeably finer and more sparse.
When NOT to wax
Skip the appointment if you:
- Are on Roaccutane / isotretinoin or finished it less than 6 months ago (skin is fragile, tears easily)
- Are using retinol, AHA, BHA, or strong actives on the area — stop these 5–7 days before
- Have sunburn, eczema, dermatitis, or open cuts on the area
- Have recent fillers or injectables in the area (wait 2 weeks)
- Are in the first trimester of pregnancy (some therapists wait until second trimester just to be safe)
- Are on blood thinners
- Have diabetes that’s affecting your circulation (consult your GP first)
We’ll check this with you at consultation. If anything on this list applies, mention it when you book — better to reschedule than risk skin damage.
Frequently asked questions
Does waxing hurt? First time, especially for Brazilian or underarms — yes, it stings. Subsequent appointments hurt much less because your skin and hair follicles adjust. Most clients describe it as a sharp pinch rather than ongoing pain. Brazilian is the most uncomfortable area; legs and arms are mild.
How long until I see no more hair? Hair gradually becomes finer and sparser over 3–5 consistent waxing cycles. You won’t see “no hair,” but you’ll see significantly less, and what’s there will be finer.
Can I wax during my period? You can, but skin is more sensitive 48 hours before and during. If you have flexibility, book outside this window for less discomfort.
Will waxing make hair grow back thicker? No — this is a myth. Waxing removes the hair at the root. The hair grows back the same thickness or finer, never thicker. (Shaving cuts the hair at an angle, which is why stubble feels coarser — that’s not actually thicker hair.)
Is waxing better than laser? Laser is more expensive but more permanent — over 6–8 sessions, you can reduce hair by 70–90% long-term. Waxing is a maintenance treatment that costs less per session but continues indefinitely. Many clients laser their underarms and Brazilian, and wax the rest.
Can I wax myself at home instead? Technically yes, but DIY waxing is genuinely difficult to do well. Application angle, removal direction, wax temperature, and skin pulling all matter. Most home wax kits give patchy results and bruise the skin. If budget is the issue, focus on areas you can see (legs, arms) and leave Brazilian and back for a professional.
Do I need to grow my hair out specifically for a Brazilian? Yes — minimum 5mm, ideally 7–10mm. Pubic hair is coarser than other body hair and needs more length for the wax to grip.
