When Should You Start Waxing for Summer? (Earlier Than You Think)

Iconic Brow Wax N Beauty salon shopfront at Westfield North Lakes

Every December, the same thing happens at our salon: the phones run hot, the books fill up, and half the calls are people wanting to be smooth for the beach by the weekend. We fit in everyone we can — but here’s the truth the December crowd never hears in time: the best summer skin isn’t made in December. It’s made in August and September.

If you want genuinely smooth, low-maintenance skin all summer, the time to book your first wax is now. Here’s the why and the how.

How many waxes do you need before summer?

Two to three. That’s the honest number, and it’s all about how hair grows.

Your body hair doesn’t all grow at once — it grows in staggered cycles, so at any moment some hairs are at the surface while others are still on their way. Your very first wax only removes the hair that’s visible that day. The hairs that were still under the skin surface appear a week or two later, which is why a first-ever wax can feel like it “didn’t last.”

By your second and third wax, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, your growth cycles start to sync up. Each session catches more of your hair at the same stage, regrowth comes back finer and sparser, and results stretch longer. That’s the smooth, barely-there regrowth people are actually chasing in summer — and it only comes from consistency, not from one panic wax in December.

The pre-summer waxing timeline

Working backwards from a smooth December, the maths is simple:

  • Late August – early September: First wax. This one does the heavy lifting and resets your growth.
  • Early–mid October: Second wax. Regrowth is already noticeably finer and slower.
  • Mid–late November: Third wax. Your cycles are synced — this is the one that carries you smoothly into December.
  • Summer: Maintenance every 4–6 weeks. Quick appointments, finer hair, less sensitivity.

Start in December instead, and you’re doing wax number one — the shortest-lasting, most sensitive one — right when you want your best results. Start now, and December is wax number three or four.

Why waxing beats shaving for summer

Shaving cuts hair at the skin’s surface, so regrowth appears within a day or two — often with stubble, shadow and irritation right when you’re living in swimwear and shorts. Waxing removes hair from the root, keeping skin smooth for weeks at a time, and repeated waxing genuinely reduces how much hair comes back. Add in no daily razor routine on holiday, no razor burn on sensitive areas, and gentle exfoliation as a side effect, and it’s not a close contest for summer.

One summer-specific tip: freshly waxed skin is sun-sensitive for the first 24–48 hours, so book your wax a couple of days before the beach day, not the morning of — and go easy on direct sun straight after your appointment.

Which areas should you start with?

Whatever you’ll be showing in summer. The most popular pre-summer bookings at our full body waxing salon in North Lakes are:

  • Full legs — $55 (half legs $35, 3/4 legs $45)
  • Brazilian — $55 (bikini line $28, G-string $40)
  • Under arms — $20
  • Full arms — $40 (half arms $30)

If it’s your first time booking a Brazilian, we’ve written a full guide on what to expect at your first Brazilian wax, and on how often to get a Brazilian once you’re in the rhythm. Men are very welcome too — see our men’s waxing services for backs, chests, arms and legs.

What does it cost to get summer-ready?

If you’re waxing multiple areas, our packages are the better maths:

  • Legs + Brazilian — $100
  • Arms + Legs + Brazilian — $135
  • Full Body Wax — $165
  • Everything Package — $300

Full current pricing for every area is on our price list. All body waxing is done at Iconic Brow Wax N Beauty — our full salon at Shop 1169, Westfield North Lakes, near Big W — in private treatment rooms with experienced waxing specialists.

Frequently asked questions

How long before summer should I get my first wax?

Ideally 2–3 months before — late August or September for an Australian summer. That gives you two to three wax cycles before December, which is when results are at their best.

How long does hair need to be before waxing?

About the length of a grain of rice — roughly 2 weeks of growth after shaving. If you’re switching from shaving, just let it grow for a fortnight and we’ll take care of the rest.

How long does a wax last?

Most people stay smooth for 3–4 weeks, with regrowth becoming finer and slower after each session. A 4–6 week rebooking rhythm keeps you consistently smooth all season.

Does waxing hurt less over time?

Yes — genuinely. Finer, sparser regrowth is easier to remove, and your skin adapts. The first wax is the one people remember; by the third, most clients are surprised how quick and easy it is.
