Like a lip stain that never wears off
Lip blush is a semi-permanent tattoo that adds a soft wash of colour across the whole lip and gently sharpens the border. It's not the hard-outlined lip liner tattoo of the 90s. Healed, it looks like a tinted balm you never have to reapply.
It works for lips that have lost definition with age, for uneven or pale lip tone, and for anyone who's tired of putting lipstick on every morning. The shade is chosen with you at your consultation to suit your natural undertone.
What's included
Lip Blush
Consultation, shade matching, numbing time, the full tattoo session and aftercare instructions. Heals to a soft, natural finish over 4 to 6 weeks.
Touch-Up
Lips heal lighter and patchier than brows, so most clients want a second pass to even out colour and build depth. Booked once your first session has fully healed.
Refresh
When the colour softens more than you'd like, a refresh brings it back without starting from scratch.
Your lip blush appointment
Consultation and shade
We look at your natural lip tone and undertone, talk through the colour you want, and draw the shape so you can see it before we start. The wrong undertone is the most common lip blush mistake and the one we're trained to avoid.
Numbing
Your own numbing cream goes on first. Lips are more sensitive than brows, so we allow proper time for it to work before we begin.
The tattoo
Colour is built up in soft layers across the whole lip, then the border is defined. Most clients describe it as a scratchy, buzzing pressure rather than pain.
Healing
Lips look bright and a little swollen for 2 to 3 days, then flake and fade back by 30 to 50 percent. True colour settles by week 4 to 6. Then your touch-up.
Bring your own numbing cream
Queensland Health requires cosmetic tattoo clients to purchase and bring their own topical anaesthetic unless treated by a registered doctor or nurse. We can't supply it for you. The week before
- Order your numbing cream the day you book
- Cold sore history: start your antiviral as your GP directs
- Exfoliate lips gently and use a balm daily so they're smooth and hydrated
- No lip fillers for at least 4 weeks before
- Skip alcohol, caffeine and blood thinners (e.g. fish oil, aspirin) for 24 hours before
- Bring a photo of a lip colour you love
Before you book
Does lip blush hurt?
Less than most people expect. With numbing, most clients describe it as a scratchy, buzzing pressure. Uncomfortable in moments, but very manageable. Lips are more sensitive than brows, so it's a step up from a powder brow session. If you're due for your period, sensitivity runs higher that week, so book around it if you can.
How long does lip blush last?
Typically two to three years, fading gradually and evenly. Sun exposure, smoking and exfoliating acids speed up fading. A refresh appointment brings the colour back without starting from scratch.
Will one session be enough?
Lips heal lighter and less evenly than brows, so most clients book a touch-up 6 to 8 weeks after the first session to even out and deepen the colour. It's $250 and worth planning for.
Does lip blush work on darker lips?
Yes, with the right approach. Deeper natural lip tones need a careful undertone choice to avoid the colour healing ashy or grey. Book an in-person shade consultation first. It's the most important step for darker lips.
Can I wear lipstick after lip blush?
Not during healing. Once fully healed at 4 to 6 weeks, yes, whenever you like. Most clients find they reach for it far less.
Who should wait?
We'll ask you to wait if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Check with your doctor first if you're on blood thinners or prone to keloid scarring. If you've had a cold sore before, follow the antiviral note above.
