Brows that look like makeup, not tattoo
Powder and ombre brows are a semi-permanent tattoo done with a machine. Thousands of tiny dots of pigment build up a soft, filled-in shape, the way brow powder looks when you've just done it. No hair strokes, no harsh outline, nothing that reads as "tattooed".
It works on nearly every skin type, including oily skin where microblading tends to blur, and it lasts far longer than microblading. If you fill your brows in most mornings, this is the treatment that gives you that time back.
Same technique, two finishes
Both are done the same way with the same pigments and the same healing. The only difference is how the shading is placed. We'll show you both at your consultation and help you pick, but here's the short version.
Powder Brow
Soft, even shading across the whole brow. Looks like you've gently filled them in with powder. The most natural of the brow tattoo styles and the one most clients choose.

From consultation to healed brows
Consultation and design
We measure and map the shape on your face, agree on colour and finish, and answer every question. You approve the drawn shape before any pigment goes on.
First session
Numbing cream first, then the tattoo. Most clients describe it as scratchy rather than painful. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours including design.
Healing
Brows look bold for 5 to 7 days, flake lightly, then soften by 30 to 40 percent. The final colour settles by week 4 to 6. Patience is the hardest part.
Touch-up
6 to 8 weeks after your first session we fill any spots that healed lighter and fine-tune the shape. This is when the result really lands.
Bring your own numbing cream
Queensland Health requires cosmetic tattoo clients to purchase and bring their own topical anaesthetic unless treated by a registered doctor or nurse. We can't supply it for you. Order it as soon as you book so it arrives in time. The week before
- Order your numbing cream the day you book
- No brow waxing, threading or tinting for 5 days before
- Skip alcohol, caffeine and blood thinners (e.g. fish oil, aspirin) for 24 hours before
- No retinol, acids or facials on the brow area for a week before
- Avoid sunburn on the face. Tattoo can't be done on sunburnt skin
- Bring a reference photo if you have a look in mind
Before you book
How long do powder and ombre brows last?
Two to three years for most clients. Oily skin, sun exposure and some skincare fade them faster. A refresh at 8 to 12 months keeps them crisp and is $350, a fraction of the first session.
Does it hurt?
With numbing cream, most clients describe it as a scratchy or vibrating feeling rather than pain. The first ten minutes are the most noticeable, then the numbing settles in. Brows are far less sensitive than lips.
Powder or ombre, which should I choose?
If you want the softest, most natural finish, powder. If you wear brow makeup daily and want more definition at the tail, ombre. Both cost the same and heal the same, so it's purely about the look. We'll show you both at your consultation.
I've had brows tattooed elsewhere and they've faded. Can you go over them?
Usually, yes. We assess the old work at a consultation and quote from there. If the old pigment has gone very cool or warm, we may recommend a colour correction first. Book a consultation and bring photos of the original work if you have them.
Is it the same as microblading?
No. Microblading cuts individual hair strokes with a hand tool. Powder and ombre brows use a machine to shade the brow softly. Machine shading is gentler on the skin, lasts longer, and holds up on oily skin where microblading blurs.
Who shouldn't get cosmetic tattoo?
We can't tattoo if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, on blood thinners or Accutane, have diabetes that isn't well controlled, or have an active skin condition on the brow area. If you're unsure, tell us at booking and we'll advise before you buy numbing cream.
Can I have this done at the kiosk?
No. Cosmetic tattoo is salon only, in a private room at Iconic Brow Wax N Beauty near Big W.
